Thomas Clark

Thomas Clark

President, Nationwide E&S/Specialty

Tom Clark has more than 33 years of technical and leadership experience in the insurance industry. He became President of Nationwide E&S/Specialty in December of 2015.

Prior to that, Tom served as Senior Vice President of Field Operations for Allied Insurance. He was also Senior Vice President of Field Operations for Harleysville, and Vice President of Harleysville's New Jersey branch office. His other roles have included Regional Vice President for Allied's South Eastern Regional Office.

Before joining Harleysville, Tom was the Commercial Lines Executive for the Mid-Atlantic region of Fireman's Fund. He held other industry roles, including Special Risk Manager for the Treiber Group, Western Area Marketing Manager for Clarendon National Insurance Company, and Business Development Manager and Underwriting Services Manager for Cigna Corp.

Tom holds bachelor's degrees in information systems management and business administration from the University of San Francisco and Wheeling Jesuit University.

Tom Jurgens

Senior Vice President, Brokerage Underwriting

Tom brings more than 30 years of experience in the E&S and specialty insurance market to his role at Nationwide. His in-depth knowledge of these lines of business allows him to understand the unique nature of the industry and the essential role the customer base plays.

Tom began his insurance career in 1983 at an independent insurance agency where he served in various leadership and commercial production functions. He joined Scottsdale Insurance in 1993 as a Senior Underwriter. Over the course of his 17 years with the company, Tom held various leadership roles within underwriting. In 2005, he became the Northwest Regional Director for Contract Underwriting. He held that position until an opportunity with Nationwide Agribusiness took him to Des Moines in 2010, where he served as Vice President of Underwriting until 2015.

Tom earned his Bachelor of Science degree in insurance from the University of Northern Colorado. He has ASLI (Associate in Surplus Lines Insurance) and AAI (Accredited Advisor in Insurance) designations.

David Nelson

David Nelson

Senior Vice President, Contract Underwriting

David, who started with Nationwide in 1991, brings a deep understanding of our business and products, an impressive financial acumen, and strong relationships with our customers to our Underwriting division. Over the course of his career, he has supported a number of major business initiatives and was instrumental in the diversification of our portfolio with start-ups such as Management Liability and Specialty, Commercial Auto and Nationwide Private Client.

David's most recent position was chief financial officer for the Scottsdale Insurance Group of Companies, Nationwide Agribusiness and Nationwide National Partners. As CFO, David retained financial oversight for $3.8 billion of annual operating revenue, while managing personnel in Scottsdale, Des Moines and New York City.

David has a bachelor's degree in finance from Arizona State University. He is active in the community and has served as President of the Board for Scottsdale Leadership, a nonprofit Arizona-based leadership program that helps develop community leaders.

Ken Levine

Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer

Ken brings strong forecasting and finance knowledge, as well as communication and team-building skills to his role as leader of the Finance Division.

Ken, who joined Nationwide in 1996, has served in various actuarial roles, most recently as leader of the Actuarial Division. He has a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. He is a fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society, a member of the American Academy of Actuaries and a certified coach with the Hudson Institute.

Doreen K. Reinke

Vice President of Operations

Doreen Reinke has been in the insurance industry since 1976, joining E&S/Specialty at Nationwide in 1991.

Doreen's career spans many facets of both leadership and insurance. Prior to joining Nationwide, Doreen held claims management positions at USF&G and Auto Owners Insurance Companies.

She holds a bachelor's degree in business management from the University of Phoenix. Doreen also is a 6-year board member for Scottsdale/Paradise Valley Family YMCA. She is a certified coach with the Hudson Institute and is a 2003 graduate of Scottsdale Leadership. Most recently, she received the Constance O. Garretson (COG) Memorial Award by Minority Interchange, and was named a Diversity Champion by Community Celebrating Diversity for her efforts to promote civil and human rights.

Scott J. Roth

Scott J. Roth

Vice President of Actuary and Chief Actuary

Scott Roth brings more than 30 years of actuarial and leadership experience to his role at Nationwide. In the decade before joining Nationwide, Scott built the actuarial function at two property casualty insurance startups: The Starr Companies and Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance. He spent 21 years in AIG's Corporate Actuarial department working in various domestic divisions, as well as AIG's international operation. Scott was involved in financial analysis on both a statutory and GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles) basis, and developed pricing methodologies for use worldwide.

Scott has a bachelor's degree in applied math from SUNY Stony Brook. He is an Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. Scott is active in local civic affairs and served a term as a Trustee in the village of Brookville, New York.

Brian Smith

Information Technology Vice President and Chief Information Officer

Brian is responsible for leading the IT team in support of strategic objectives and business needs. He plays a key role in leveraging technology capabilities across the Nationwide enterprise to accomplish these objectives.

Brian has held several leadership roles at Nationwide including Vice President of Requirements and Testing Services, Vice President of Delivery Services, Systems Officer, and Associate Vice President/IT Delivery Executive for eCIF (Enterprise Customer Information File). He also held the position of Associate Vice President/IT Business Management Leader.

Prior to joining Nationwide, Brian served in leadership and project management roles at both JPMorgan Chase and Accenture. He has an MBA from the University of Dayton and a B.S. in business administration from Ohio State University.

Vice President of Claims

George has been in the claims industry since 1980. He brings a broad claim background, including significant experience with commercial claims, to his role providing overall leadership and strategic direction to our Claims Division.

George has held various claims leadership roles with Nationwide, as well as key claims positions with Liberty Mutual, Alexsis Risk Management Services, Chubb & Son, and CGU Insurance.

George has a bachelor's degree in business and public administration from Alderson-Broaddus College in Philippi, West Virginia.

Steve Herman

Associate Vice President and Associate General Counsel

Steve Herman brings more than 20 years of expertise ranging from corporate governance to commercial product development to Nationwide supporting Excess & Surplus/Specialty organization. As leader of the legal team responsible for supporting E&S, he plays an integral role in managing the legal, regulatory and compliance matters of the company.

In addition to directing the company's response to various legal threats, Steve proactively advises Excess & Surplus/Specialty leaders on potential risks and helps develop practical solutions to manage those risks.

Before joining Nationwide in 2007, Steve served as Regulatory Counsel at the Ohio Department of Insurance where he provided advice and counsel to the Superintendent of Insurance on a variety of matters including market regulation, company licensing, insurance legislation, rate and form filing compliance, claim handling practices and broker compensation. Prior to his public service at the Ohio Department, Steve was in private practice in Columbus, Ohio where he focused exclusively on property and casualty insurance litigation.

Steve earned his bachelor's degree in history from The Ohio State University, his Juris Doctor from Ohio Northern University College of Law and his Master of Laws in insurance law from the University of Connecticut School of Law. Steve also holds the CPCU designation.

Carol Sheehan-Mathis

Carol Sheehan-Mathis

Associate Vice President of Human Resources

Carol brings more than 30 years of experience in business and more than 15 years in the insurance industry to her role as Associate Vice President of Human Resources. She joined E&S/Specialty at Nationwide in 1999. She was promoted to director of Human Resources in 2005 and was selected for her current position in 2012.

Carol has a business degree in marketing from Texas Tech University. She has a Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation.
